BSC Hertha – 1. FC Nürnberg : Preview!
Der Club are back on the road this Friday, along with FCN UK! Following a run of 3 successive victories, Club fans will be heading to Berlin excited at the prospect of picking up the 5th win in just six games. The opposition – 14th placed, winless in 4, without a manager, Hertha Berlin. On paper, the odds stack heavily against the home side, who also happen to have the worst record on their own patch in the league! Surely Der Club can’t miss this easy of an opportunity to pick up three crucial points… surely?
Ones to watch
Stefanos Tzimas – A few games without a goal is sure to make Der Club’s Seagull hungry to find the back of the net on Friday. FCN’s top scorer, and the joint 7th in the League is never far from a goal, with hopes amongst Club Fans that the next one will fall at the Olyimpiastadion.
Casper Jander – Fresh from a fine performance at the weekend against Ulm which included the goal which gave 1.FC Nürnberg an 85th minute lead, Jander will be undoubtedly be determined to help push his side to yet another victory, as they look to ascend the table.
Ibrahim Maza – At just 19 years of age, Maza is already playing in his third professional season and will be keen to ensure that the second half of it can bring some success. The Hertha midfielder has so far found the back of the net 7 times this term and has assisted his team in doing so 3 times.
Fabian Reese – After what has been a disappointing season to say the least for Reese after a series of injuries has kept him sidelined up until recently, he finally found the net in Dusseldorf as his side fell to a 2-1 defeat. In the previous two seasons, he has averaged a total of 24 goal contributions in each term, a tally he won’t reach this season, yet one he will want to get close to, with an opportunity to do so against Nürnberg’s somewhat leaky defence.
Stats and figures
1.FCN posses the third best attacking force in the league, having already found the net 41 times, though their joint 6th worst defence in the league is perhaps holding them back from the top of the tree. BSC Hertha are not prolific in front of goal, only 5 of their 32 goals this season in the Zweite Bundesliga have come in the new year, on form making them the second worse in the division. The Hertha defence has fared better than Nürnberg’s so far this season, having conceded a goal less at 36 – it is crucial for the home side to keep FCN out. At the Olympiastadion, Hertha Berlin have only managed just 7 points, with their last win in the capital coming against Brauschweig on the 18th of October. Unfortunately, Der Club’s away record is not much better with just 11 of their 34 points coming away from the Max Morlock Stadion. Confidence will be high however after a fantastic 94th minute winner courtesy of Julian Justvan in Magdeburg. Der Club are winless in Germany’s capital city since 2014, when a goal from Markus Feulner and a Josip Drmic double helped propel Nürnberg to a 3-1 victory. The result would not help

Now, all eyes turn to our clash with Die Alte Dame at the national stadium in an important match for both parties. And, as the song goes, “FCN [UK], back again”, as Der Club’s UK fanbase returns to Deutschland in hopes of another FC Nürnberg win. Auf gehts!
